twangMART: rating system
Central to the system is
the age of the instrument. Each rating being relative to this. As a
rough guide for every decade of the guitar's age it would score a
category above a newer guitar. As an example a 2005 guitar might
score a C+, an identical guitar from 1995 would rate a B-, from
1985 a B, from 1975 B+ and from pre 1965 it would rate A- (the
highest category for a 'played' guitar).
Of course ratings need to be read alongside the description, but we
use them as a sensible & straightforward starting
point.
A+: 'mint' = flawless, factory
new.
A:
'shop new' =
miniscule factory imperfections and/or minimal
playwear.
A-:
'outstanding
s/h condition' = relatively few signs of play
or wear and tear. well looked after. all
original.
B+: 'excellent
s/h condition' = well looked after and all
original.
B:
'very good condition' =
played but respected, all original, with some play wear and
light marks.
B-: 'good
condition' = played but respected / play
wear / marks.
C+: 'above average condition' = regular but respectful use,
no major issues, may have some non original parts, playwear and/or
marks, check description.
C:
'average condition' =
no major issues, well used but plays well - check
description for details
D: 'below average' =
playable in all respects but a bit tatty, check description
for cosmetic signs of age / wear and tear. probably needs set
up.
E: 'project' =
intact but barely playable, flawed or damaged - needing
serious work.
F: 're-cycle'
